Holidays to Dalaman with If Only

Picture-postcard views await visitors to Turkey’s south west shores, known as ‘the Turquoise Coast’ thanks to its blissful beaches ringed by bright, green-blue waters. Irresistible sun-soaked stretches of sand are surrounded by rolling green mountains, and quaint fishing villages, historic ruins and chic marinas pepper the captivating landscape. Lay back and relax on the dazzling white sands of Olu Deniz, admire luxury yachts in Göcek, wander past white-washed houses decorated with bright bougainvilleas in Kalkan, or shop for traditional handicrafts in Fethiye. There’s plenty to keep thrill-seekers happy as well, with watersports tempting visitors out to sea, scuba-diving and snorkelling revealing life under the waves, and the region’s hilly terrain perfect for hiking as well as exciting activities such as canyoning. And for the ultimate thrill and breathtaking views, paragliding from the top of one of the coastal cliffs will certainly get the adrenaline pumping!

Highlights

Pristine coast and mesmerising mountain scenery promise memorable views and experiences, whilst a time in history can be discovered in the haunting ghost town of Kayaköy.

Marvel at the Blue Lagoon, Olu Deniz

Bright blue waters and pure, soft white sands are surrounded by greenery-covered mountains in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz. This paradise location is an idyllic spot for sunbathing and swimming as well as snorkelling and scuba diving, when the clear waters easily reveal the colourful marine life that calls this lagoon their home. The neighbouring national park is great to explore on foot and the Blue Lagoon is one of Turkey’s best spots for paragliding, during which the amazing views of the lagoon are a rightful reward for launching into the air from a mountainside nearly 2000 metres high!

Explore by boat

Explore by boat

Discover natural wonders and historic sites from the water. Hop onto a ferry in Olu Deniz and travel the short distance to Butterfly Valley, a magical gorge brimming with exotic flora and fauna alongside up to 100 different species of butterfly. Or head out on a traditional gulet boat on a 12 Island Tour to enjoy crystal clear waters, fantastic marine life and the chance to explore small islands and secluded beaches. Gaze at the remarkable Lycian Rock Tombs from the Dalyan River, ancient tombs cut into the rock face dating back to 350 BC and only visible from a boat, before enjoying the health benefits of wallowing in a mud bath and soaking in a thermal spring in Dalyan.

Wander through Kayaköy Ghost Town

Once a bustling Greek Christian Town, Kayaköy was abandoned almost overnight in 1923 as a result of compulsory population exchange between Greece and Turkey. Whilst other towns saw new arrivals, Kayaköy did not and it has not been inhabited again to this day. Hundreds of abandoned buildings are spread throughout the fascinating archaeological site, which stands as a stark reminder of a tragic time in the country’s history.
